on the sweetness of simple and chocolate cake.

hello!
happy tuesday.
happy middle of february.
i'll admit i had a story in mind for you today.
but instead
i think we should just talk cake.

i like the idea of mixing by hand,
of cocoa powder and flour
and of sugar and fat.
of pudding pans and cake tins
and tiny oval molds.

of weighty centres
of dense layers
and of pink buttercream.

of mixing bowls
and spatulas
and vintage wire racks.

of hearty slices
of pewter plates
and of frosting just so.

it's the sweetness of simple
by way of cake
and i like that.

that's all for now, friends.
happy trails and chocolate cake.
xox, n.

we'll write to let you know when,

This is exactly what has been on my mind for the past 24 hours: cake. The decadent photographs nearly satiate ... nearly.

Hello! I came across your blog a while back and I can't help but be continuously captivated by the photos you create for your blog! They are quite refreshing in a sea of over-exposed images against white backgrounds. Don't get me wrong I love that style and I am guilty of taking pics that way myself most of the time, but there is a mood to your photos. A sort of still breath...well, anyways, I diverge. Keep up the amazing inspiration!

Hello Nikole,

I stumbled upon 46th at grace a while ago and pop by every once in a while for a small dose of poetry and a snippet of whimsy to bring a touch of levity to my otherwise prosaic and far too sensible, doesn't-nourish-the-soul existence.

Thanks.

Don't like chocolate cake but love those pictures

If that amazing cake were any more chocolately, it would have to have a foil wrapper on it!

What a gorgeous blog you have ~ quite the eye for stunning things. Happy to be your newest follower, so I don't miss out on these images of foodie perfection!

Wow....fantastic photos. The dark background goes so well with the browns of the cake and icing. Good work on the lighting too. I half want to run my finger through the icing and pop it straight into my mouth when no on is looking...but then again it looks so perfect that I almost don't want to disturb it.

This brings new meaning to the concept of food porn. I came across this photo on the website I'm working for and just wanted to verify that it was okay.
